Parking spaces to go under plans for more e-scooter bays
The number of on-street parking spaces in local neighbourhoods is set to drop under plans to designate more tarmac for rental e-scooters and e-bikes.
Bristol City Council has earmarked at least nine roads in BS7 for the new bays under proposals for a total of 200 city-wide. Some will be on pavements, but the majority will occupy road space.
It follows the introduction earlier this year of more than 50 dedicated parking areas for bikes and scooters rented out by operators Dott, among them a stretch of Dongola Avenue in Bishopston.
Public consultation has started for the scheme, which would be paid for out of a huge £540 million grant obtained by the West of England Combined Authority to improve transport links across the region.

In a press release announcing the consultation, Cllr Ed Plowden, chair of the city council's Transport and Connectivity Committee, said: "E-scooters and e-bikes provide a convenient, affordable and low-carbon option for travelling in and around Bristol. As demand for these services continues to grow, it's important we have the infrastructure in place to support them.
"Thanks to additional funding from the Combined Authority, we've been able to identify around 200 potential new parking bay locations across the city. Before these are finalised, we want to hear from people about any site-specific issues we may need to consider."
The roads in BS7 under consideration for the bays include: Broadway Road, Hatherley Road, Upper Belmont Road (close to the cricket ground), Cambridge Road, Longmead Avenue, Ash Road, Strathmore Road, Wellington Hill and Beaufort Road.
