Horfield’s resident dalek has been given a fresh coat of paint as owner Keith Walker aims to hit his target of raising £5,000 for a children’s hospice.

The Dr Who character is just one of the eye-catching features of Keith’s front garden in Thornleigh Road, where Dale has been on display for at least the past 20 years.

Keith has already raised more than £4,700 in memory of a dalek-loving young relative who inspired Dale’s creation.

Made in part from an old compost bin, Dale is now firmly anchored to the ground after being stolen some years ago by a pair of high-spirited drunks.

Keith says: “He was left scattered over Horfield Common. We found out who did it – it was a teacher and a nurse. They clearly couldn’t handle their beer. They said they’d put him back together but in the end it was left to me”.
