Co-op to close for three months
The Co-op in Bishopston is to shut for three months for renovation. Doors will be closed at 6pm on Saturday January 17, with a re-opening scheduled for April 18.
Store manager Michelle Phillips said: "The store will relaunch with a fresh new-look in April, with a focus on being a hub locally and delivering the quality, choice, value and added services to conveniently serve and support the community, which can be enjoyed by everyone. We would like to thank the community for its understanding during our temporary closure, and we look forward to re-opening and welcoming our customers back into their local Co-op.”

There's been a supermarket at the Gloucester Road location since at least 1978 when it was first run by Safeway, according to local history website The Gloucester Road Story.
After 1992 it became Somerfield, until the Co-operative Group took over the chain in 2009.
*A GRN reader has been in contact to provide some further background information: "When I lived at 22a Gloucester Road in 1980, the Co-op was then a grocer called Greggs (not the baker of the same name) and they had a deli counter. When Somerfield took over, some of the Greggs staff remained."
